Helen Long (Oct 1925 — Nov 25, 2019)

Peggy Long
November 25, 2019

Our beautiful Kahshe has lost another island friend. Helen Long passed peacefully on November 25, 2019, in Northern California, after having celebrated her 94th birthday this past October.

Helen was married to Dr. Kermit Long and together they built the large cottage on east Cherokee Island. Helen was an avid artist and today, many cottages house her beautiful paintings. She was also an awesome fisherwoman. She caught a 42” Muskie with no net which hung proudly above their two-story stone fireplace. Catching that big fish was no easy feat; it pulled their little fishing boat around for an hour and Kermit broke two oars hitting the fish!

Helen and Kermit had an extensive garden on Cherokee which consisted of a huge rhubarb patch that they shared with many other cottagers. Helen was also known to sing at many of the Kahshe church gatherings and "sings."

She had a passion for cooking and baking and I bet many cottagers shared a great dinner at their large harvest pine table. Helen and Kermit lived in Peoria, AZ  during the warm winter months. She is survived by her three children and four step-children who called Helen their special Mom. Ken, Karen, and Peggy Long spent many years on Cherokee with Helen and their Dad Kermit in their own cottages. We know that the Healing Waters of Kahshe will heal all of Helen’s family and friends.
