Norm Beauchamp (Jan 24, 1923 –— Nov 1, 2023)
Norm Beauchamp reached the age of 100 before passing this past fall. He was very fortunate to have spent over 50 years at their Kahshe Lake cottage. He and his wife Jean, bought the cottage in 1966 with the family of four children. It is located at the Housey Rapids end of the lake on the south side of the channel. They were introduced to Kahshe by their Etobicoke neighbours, the Radfords and Champions, who already owned on the lake. They fell in love with Kahshe and sought out their own place. They obtained the cottage through a Scottish estate sale, a blind bidding process from a tiny ad in the Toronto Star.
Norm loved the water and boating. He was still enjoying a swim at 95 years old. He built 3 wooden boats; a runabout, a dingy that you could row or sail, and a SeaFlea which is still in running condition. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” on the lake and would drop everything to help any of the neighbours fix pumps, motors or whatever needed fixing. Norm was part of the Housey Rapids Cottagers Association and helped organize the regattas that used to be held on Ellis’ beach, now known as “Share-a-Shore.”
We are so grateful that Mom and Dad took the leap at that time to purchase the Kahshe Lake cottage. Their memories will live on at our “happy place.”
