Robert B. Crocker (1919 — June 25, 2012)
Bob Crocker died peacefully on June 25th at the age of 93 after a period of declining health. He was predeceased in 2010 by his spouse of 55 years Becky Crocker. He is survived by children John von Lackum, Sue von Lackum, Nancy Horstman, Tom von Lackum, Marilyn Edwards Crocker, James Crocker, and Phyllis Crocker, and their spouses or significant others; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters as well as two nephews (Dave and Larry Crocker) and their families.
Dad was a remarkable man and we will miss him deeply, but also celebrate the fact that we got to be with him for so many years. Dad lived in the midwestern USA all of his life: during his career as a minister in the United Methodist Church Bob served congregations in Indiana, Iowa, Alaska, and Illinois as well as the Sparrow Lake United Church here in Ontario.
Kahshe Lake was his true home. His grandfather built a cottage on Kahshe in 1910 and Dad journeyed to the lake each summer of his life with only a few exceptions. Kahshe was not just a vacation spot. Kahshe was a place where generations of the family gathered together, a place of family tradition and history, a place he yearned to be.
From life on Kahshe with our Dad, we learned to appreciate the sighting of the moon’s path across the water, the sound of the waves lapping on the shore, and the plaintive cry of the loon breaking the stillness of the night.
