Trevor Herbert Baker (Apr 20, 1929 — Apr 20, 2017)
Trevor passed away peacefully on his 88th Birthday this April. His cottage on Bass Lake at the eastern end of Kahshe Lake was always a great source of pride and joy. He was first initiated to the charms of Kahshe Lake as a young boy when his family took vacations renting a large cottage at Moad’s on Kahshe near Kluey’s Bay, probably back in the early 40s. They returned year after year, and somewhere in those treasured family times, the seed was planted for his love of Kahshe Lake.
Trevor was very active in the (then) Housey’s Rapids Cottager’s Association, serving on many committees, conducting and submitting regular water quality samples, and eventually serving as HRCA President for two years. A lifelong educator, he eventually took on the role of Business Studies Coordinator for the Scarborough Board of Education, which he held until his retirement in the late 80s. During this time, along with his wife Beth, he acquired the means to purchase a very modest two-bedroom cabin on Bass Lake in 1971, complete with no running water, which meant outdoor facilities! Over time and with the help of local contractor Cliff Fitchett, plumbing and then two additions were added, creating a unique gable-windowed three-bedroom cedar cottage.
Trevor, with some help from his sons, completed much of the interior work with “professional pride” over the years as time allowed outside of all the usual cottage leisure activities. These included golfing with the family at Bracebridge G.C. and then Thursday Men’s Days at Kirrie Glen, and much time spent with his children, Lorri, Ken, and Steve, and eventually his five grandchildren; on the water, playing horseshoes or card games played into the evenings. They all treasured their time spent at the cottage with Trevor, and they continue to look forward to their summers at the cottage every year with special thanks to the legacy left behind by Trevor.
