Passionate about the natural world, Sara Varty cultivated a deep appreciation for the outdoors through childhood summers spent camping along the Black River and Georgian Bay. Her diverse interests include golfing, skiing, hiking, yoga, literature, and exploring new destinations.

Amidst the whirlwind of raising three boys immersed in rep hockey and myriad activities with her husband, Matt, Kahshe Lake has seamlessly evolved into her cherished second home. Nothing rivals the joy of summers filled with fishing, boating, swimming, and creating enduring memories with family and friends by the water.

Academically, Sara pursued a degree in environmental engineering at Guelph and later earned a Business and Sustainability MBA from Schulich. Commencing her professional journey in environmental consulting, she's dedicated the past two decades to diverse roles at Environment Canada. In her current capacity, Sara oversees projects aimed at restoring degraded sites around the Great Lakes, providing her with a profound understanding of the myriad threats facing aquatic ecosystems. Recognizing the paramount importance of safeguarding our water for future generations, she feels privileged to spearhead the monitoring and tracking of water quality on behalf of the Kahshe and Bass Lake communities. By sharing this information, Sara aspires to foster a collective commitment to becoming better stewards of this exquisite environment.

Favourite Lake Memory

We have crossed the ice once for a winter visit and it was magical. It was our first winter and we had a free weekend due to Covid shutdowns so couldn't resist making the literal trek across Grants Bay to check in on everything.  I will never forget watching the kids sled down the snowy slope to the frozen lake, drawing giant pictures in the untouched snow, and carting buckets of icy water for washing and flushing.
