Barbara Joan Emery (nee Stickley) (June 15, 1943 — Aug. 20, 2024)

It's with great sadness we announce the passing of Joan Emery, who passed away peacefully in her sleep, while her husband held her hand, on Tuesday August 20th at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joan (don't call me Barbara!) is survived by her husband of 54 years, Peter Emery and her children, Michelle Dafoe (Ken) and Russell Emery (Jasmin). Beloved Nan to her grandkids Ethan, Jessica, Kira and Molly. Joan will be sadly missed by her siblings Sue (Ted), Ron (Julia) and Pat (Rob) as well as her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan spent almost every summer at her favorite place in the world, the family cottage at Kahshe Lake and her winters were spent curling in multiple leagues at the Chinguacousy Curling Club where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed playing cards and games (especially Dungeons and Dragons, 20th level Magic User) with friends and family and she was the one to beat when playing Trivial Pursuit.

Joan loved to watch and record her TV shows (created so many VCR tapes and later PVR shows), generously gave away her hand-made crochet hats and was a voracious reader of novels and audio books all the while sipping her tea from her huge bubba mug. The family would like to thank the many medical professionals who cared for Joan throughout her battle with cancer. Special thanks to Natacha for her amazing and selfless nursing care.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Penetanguishene Funeral Home. No public celebration of life will take place at Joan's request. In her memory, drink a cup of tea while wearing purple or turquoise and watch Jeopardy. She would enjoy that.
