Becky Crocker (June 18, 1919 — Aug 8, 2010)
Becky died peacefully in her sleep at Muskoka Algonquin Health Center in the early hours of August 8th, 2010, after a fall at the family's beloved cottage on Kahshe Lake in Ontario, Canada the previous afternoon. She was 91 years of age.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Rev. Robert Bennett Crocker, as well as seven children and their spouses or significant others, four grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. Born Jean Rebecca Hamill on June 18, 1919, to Charles Barker Hamill and Ida Leola Hamill (nee Hoffman) in Indianapolis, Indiana, Becky married John Peter von Lackum Jr. in 1942 and the couple had three children, John Peter von Lackum III, Sue Anne von Lackum, and Thomas Hamill von Lackum.
Following the death of her husband John, she married Robert Crocker on November 8, 1954, in Western Springs, Illinois. Also recently widowed, Bob brought children Nancy Jean Crocker, Marilyn Elizabeth Crocker, and James Everett Crocker to the new family, which soon included daughter Phyllis Louise Crocker. Becky embraced all seven children with a love that bonded the new family.
Becky will be remembered for her lifelong passion for learning and for seeking out new experiences; cycling across Europe with her brother and his wife, missionary work in Indonesia, Puerto Rico, Alabama, and Florida, and four projects in Alaska. Becky shared a rich spiritual life with her husband and colleagues in the United Methodist Church and was active in the philanthropic women's organization P.E.O. She was gifted in needlecraft, including quilting, sewing, and needlepoint, and loved making special gifts for friends and family.
