Kahshe Cares Fundraiser 2020

April Drane, President, KBLA
September 15, 2020

During the challenging summer of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Randy Craig, a talented photographer, and Kahshe Laker for 25+ years, had the opportunity to contribute to a unique and meaningful fundraiser hosted by the KBLA. On September 2, 2020, at The Muskoka Drive-in Theatre, the community gathered safely in their cars to enjoy a socially distanced evening of entertainment. The atmosphere was a mix of nostalgia and innovation, as traditional fundraising methods were adapted to meet the demands of the pandemic.

Randy, known for his breathtaking landscape photography and his ability to capture the essence of nature around Kahshe Lake, was specifically asked to create a video, “Kahshe Cares” for this special occasion. His photography work, which had been featured in National Geographic and Cottage Life showcased the serene beauty of the lake, its wildlife, and the changing seasons. The video he created for the fundraiser was no exception, blending his stunning visuals with a heartfelt narrative that aimed to engage and inspire the attendees. The funds were used for Gravenhurst Against Poverty (GAP) The purpose was well-known to the organizers and participants, many of whom felt a deep connection to the cause. The collective effort and enthusiasm of the community were palpable, underscoring the resilience and solidarity that defined that unprecedented summer.

Adding to the evening's charm was a live performance by Steve Rae, who entertained the audience with his talent before the main film was shown. His performance set the tone for the event, creating a sense of unity and anticipation among the attendees. The combination of live music, Randy's video contribution, and the feature film made for a memorable and impactful fundraiser, demonstrating how creativity and community spirit can thrive even in the most challenging times.

In addition to his photographic contributions, Randy was also recognized for his dedication to the community. In 2017, he was nominated for Volunteer of the Year by the KBLA, reflecting his ongoing commitment to supporting local initiatives and enhancing community spirit. This recognition underscored his integral role in the community, further enriching the impact of his work on the fundraiser.
